Call for Abstracts: Essays in Honor of Charlene Haddock Seigfried
Title: Pragmatist Feminism and Feminist Pragmatism: Essays in Honor of Charlene Haddock Seigfried.
Editors: Lee A. McBride III (College of Wooster) and Erin McKenna (University of Oregon).
Long before she published Pragmatism and Feminism: Reweaving the Social Fabric in 1996 Charlene Haddock Seigfried had been a major influence in American philosophy and the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy. She was well known for her work on William James and remains an important commenter on his work. She became equally well known for her readings of John Dewey and Jane Addams. Her work on Addams in particular has made her an important figure among those interested in intellectual history and women and gender studies as well as philosophy. That said, Pragmatism and Feminism spawned a newly identified and extremely influential area of feminist philosophy—Pragmatist Feminism. We welcome commentaries on any aspect of Seigfried’s work.
We are issuing a Call for Abstracts for a volume honoring the work of Charlene Haddock Seigfried. This will appear as a book or a special issue of a journal. In order to prepare our proposal we need a tentative table of contents and list of contributors. If you are interested, please send a title and abstract of 500 words to either of us at: Lmcbride@wooster.edu or emckenna@uoregon.edu
Feel free to let us know of your interest as soon as possible. The deadline for abstracts is April 30, 2019.
